This weekend I had the pleasure of attending Florida Farm Bureau’s 2008 Young Farmer and Rancher Conference at the Hilton, Lake Buna Vista at Walt Disney World. Hosted by the state YF&R Leadership Group, this annual
conference welcomes Farm Bureau leaders between the ages of 18 and 35. This year’s conference offered programs on financial management, handling interpersonal conflict, and the often-complex and emotion ridden process of generational succession – that is, the process of transferring ownership of family farming operations to the next generation.
My friend and fellow Farm Bureau member Patrick Grady presented two engaging programs, “Juggling Elephants,” offering techniques to increase focus and production, and “All Stressed Up and No Place to Go,” a humorous presentation to help us achieve balance in life. I always enjoy Patrick’s presentations as he shares his unique perspective on life and career.
The Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher program at both the state and national levels are aimed at building future leaders for the industry and Farm Bureau. As an alumnus of both programs, I can attest to the program’s effectiveness. Any Farm Bureau member between 18 and 35 can attend the conference. If you missed it this year, plan now to attend the 2009 conference.
