Spring Member Spotlight

Collegiate Farm Bureau’s main goal is to promote agricultural awareness and to help in the community. This includes involvement in Agriculture Awareness Days at elementary schools and community service events. Members of Collegiate Farm Bureau have the opportunity to attend state and local Farm Bureau meetings, and as members pursue a career in agriculture they can become more involved in every aspect of the industry. Each semester Collegiate Farm Bureau will accept nominations to spotlight one of the organization’s members who stand out in the agricultural industry. Trey Warnock III is the recipient for this semester.

Trey will graduate in May with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. He plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Animals Sciences. Trey’s agricultural back ground began in middle school and FFA with 6 years as an officer and countless competitions and animal projects including a national placement with his Ag Mechanics Team. Trey earned his FFA State Degree in 2004 and his American Degree in 2005. Right out of high school Trey partnered with another young entrepreneur and developed a small cattle operation of Brangus and Hereford cattle while working in an area farm supply and feed barn and earning his associates degree. Their small cattle operation focused on cow calf production and marketing for sale.

After being accepted at UF, Trey took an internship with Lykes Bros, Inc. in Brighton where he developed beef cattle market research reports, researched beef cattle systems and worked regularly with the cow crew on day-to-day herd management. In addition, Trey served a second internship with the Williamson Cattle Ranch in Benjamin, Texas as a full time ranch hand on a stocker operation. While in Texas, he had the opportunity to work with the R. A. Brown Ranch. Trey is a member of the Florida Cattleman’s Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at UF. Trey has also held a variety of jobs and offices in AGR and was selected as AGR Brother of the Year in 2008.

At UF, Trey works at the Beef Teaching Unit caring for the animals and helping with the overall operation from cow calf production to harvesting. In 2006 Trey competed on the University’s Meat Judging Team and placed 2nd High Individual in pork judging, 5th High Individual in reasons and was on the 1st Place Team in Reasons in a major competition. He is currently competing with the University’s Livestock Judging Team. Trey works with Gainesville area ranches and cattle operations and enjoys opportunities to work with his professors in research projects and cattle events. Most recently Trey is a part of a group seeking to bring a prospect show to the Gainesville area with the proceeds going to benefit the cattle industry.
