National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) is encouraging consumers to help put a stop to fake milk labeling.
Consumers should have a right to choose the beverage they choose, but should not be misled by food labels using the term “milk” on non-dairy products with lesser nutritional value.
A recent poll conducted by IPSOS for NMPF showed that 49 percent of American consumers believe that non-dairy brands should not be allowed to use the term “milk” on their product labels.
When informed that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration defines “milk” as the product of an animal, but does not enforce the labeling rule, 61 percent of consumers believe the (FDA) should restrict non-dairy beverage companies from using the term “milk”.
