Farmers and ranchers from across the Sunshine State will convene at the state Capitol next week to discuss public policy issues with Florida legislators.
Florida Farm Bureau’s annual citizens’ lobbying event will begin March 5 with a reception at the Tallahassee Farm Bureau Legislative office and continue March 6 with a legislative briefing breakfast. The day will proceed with a full schedule of legislative meetings on Farm Bureau priority issues.
“The Legislative Days event is vital to our grassroots process,” said Florida Farm Bureau President John Hoblick. “Farm families are able to share their personal stories and advocate for important issues that impact their livelihoods and Florida agriculture.”
Issues on the agenda include: funding for critical water and environmental projects, Hurricane Michael Relief funding, additional funding for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Fresh From Florida marketing program and the Rural and Family Lands Program and support of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) workload funding.
A Taste of Florida Agriculture evening reception will wrap up the event on March 6, featuring special guest speakers Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried and Florida Farm Bureau President John Hoblick.
Legislators, government officials and the public are welcome to sample locally grown Florida foods, meet farm families and learn more about agriculture’s benefits for all Floridians.
