More than 120 Florida women will gather in Destin this week to learn how to become better advocates for the farmers and ranchers who grow the food that is served on American dinner tables.
The 2015 Florida Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Conference will be held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort March 5-7.
Women from across Florida will share ideas, network and participate in various hands-on workshops that will focus on how to become better advocates for agriculture.
“This year’s conference theme, “It’s Time,” will tie the importance of talking about agriculture, promoting the truth and reaching out in communities,” said Ginny Paarlberg, chair of Florida Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee. “It’s never been a more critical time for us come together and use our grassroots power to advocate among young people and consumers about the agriculture.”
The conference will include sessions from a scientist who will share the truth about GMOs and Biotechnology and how to communicate to the general public, a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force who will lead an interactive workshop on leadership and educational experts who will provide the latest Florida Ag in the Classroom resources available to help educate students about the benefits of agriculture.
The conference agenda will lead with an awards ceremony to honor 29 county Farm Bureaus in the state that have displayed excellent participation in activities promoting agriculture year-round.
Closing guest speaker, Collins Tuohy, will share her inspirational and motivational story of her bond with her adopted brother Michael Oher, as chronicled in the movie, “The Blind Side.”
Attendees will also have an opportunity to tour local agriculture, including a brewery and coastal lake dunes.
