A new federal requirement will soon add to the obligations of business. Confusion over procedural details makes compliance a potential challenge.
Congress has mandated that employers who hire at least one worker and generate gross annual revenue of more than $500,000 must provide all employees with a notice that certain health care options are available.
All employers subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act must comply. Net income is not a definitive criterion.
The notification requirement is Oct. 1 for current employees. New employees must receive such a notice within 14 days after their start dates. The requirement applies regardless of whether an employer already offers health care insurance to workers.
