Florida Farm Bureau, in partnership with the Florida Certified Crop Advisers, presented Dennis Coleman with the 2020 Excellence in Crop Advising Award.
The award recognizes individuals who have performed outstanding service for farmer clients in nutrient, soil and water and integrated pest management, as well as crop production.
Coleman is from Manatee County and is a crop consultant for Nutrien Ag Solutions, the world’s largest crop inputs company.
Coleman has more than 18 years of crop advising experience and works with around 80 growers in Central Florida with crops including potatoes, tomatoes and citrus, as well as pasture and sod production.
He consults growers in soil testing, recommends the proper amount of macronutrients and works with growers on applying the proper soil amendments to correct soil pH. He is an advocate for the application of precision agriculture, including grid sampling and data interpretation.
Perhaps most notable are his efforts in assisting two Florida growers receive national 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification for their efforts on farm. The program is a proactive, responsible commitment aimed at the long-term improvement of water quality.
The Excellence in Crop Advising Award is given to an individual who meets the standards set by the American Society of Agronomy and maintains a Crop Advising Certification.
In his spare time, Coleman volunteers with Wounded Warriors Project® and is a founding member of the local group that takes veterans on turkey hunting excursions.
