Alachua County Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers hosted the annual Food and Agriculture Festival at the Cade Museum for Creativity and Innovation in Gainesville on Nov. 20. Nearly 2,000 members of the community attended the event where they sampled local agricultural products, connected with local farmers and ranchers and learned about different Florida commodities from honeybees to livestock.
State Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Group President Kevin Lussier said that, “We’re trying to connect a nonagricultural audience with the agriculture that’s in their backyards.”
Twenty-one vendors sold products ranging from varieties of cheese to succulents and local food trucks supplied a world-wide range of cuisine from hot dogs to Venezuelan fare.
The event took place during Farm-City Week, a week-long celebration of the relationship between rural and urban residents. Traditionally held the week leading up to Thanksgiving, Farm-City Week highlights partnerships between farmers and their communities and recognizes the contributions of those who make our food supply strong.
