Florida Farm Bureau members participated in the first ever industry-wide Federal Milk Marketing Order (FMMO) Forum in Kansas City, MO from Oct. 14-16.
Hosted by the American Farm Bureau Federation, Florida Farm Bureau members joined representatives from dairy cooperatives, processors, state dairy associations and dairy farmers from across the country.
This three-day event allowed farmers to participate in discussions surrounding reforms to the way milk is priced and marketed and modernization of the current marketing order system, among other topics. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack challenged the industry to bring the dairy producer community together to discuss FMMO issues. Several USDA officials were in attendance.
“The forum was the ideal format for allowing producers, processors and industry representatives to realize the extensive common ground they share, and to continue to advance a successful and sustainable dairy industry nationwide,” said Geoffrey Patterson, Florida Farm Bureau Ag Policy Assistant Director.
Florida members in attendance include Ben Butler, Jacob Larson, Brittany Nickerson Thurlow, Greg Watts, Philip Watts, Kevin Lussier and Rod Land.
