June 2023
June is National Dairy Month, which is a great time to learn about and taste delicious dairy products.
Florida is home to 105,000 dairy cattle and produce approximately 300 million gallons of milk a year. Each dairy cow produces approximately 6-8 gallons of milk every day and is milked 2-3 times daily. Dairy farmers provide excellent care for their cows to ensure the production of high-quality milk.
Lafayette and Okeechobee are the largest dairy producing counties in Florida.
Milk and dairy products are rich in 13 essential nutrients including vitamin D and A, calcium and protein.
Dairy farmers continue to lessen their carbon footprint. The environmental impact of producing one gallon of milk has reduced significantly, requiring 30% less water, 21% less land and garnering a 19% smaller carbon footprint since 2007 nationwide.
