September 2023
August to November is a time for cooler weather, changing color and fun fall activities. It is also a time that football fans around the country gather every weekend to enjoy America’s favorite sport. Whether you’re attending a game or watching from home, there is plenty of fun to be had on game days, especially on National Tailgate Day.
National Tailgate Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of September every year to kick off a season of football, fellowship and fun. The holiday was created in 2016 but the first football tailgate took place on Nov. 6, 1869 before Rutgers University took on Princeton. Since then, thousands of football fans gather during the season to grill out and enjoy one another’s company before their favorite teams play.
To celebrate National Tailgate Day, Florida Farm Bureau will be hosting the third annual HomeField AGvantage tailgate at Florida State University’s match up against Southern Miss on Sept. 9 leading up to the 8:30 p.m. kickoff. Join football fans and Farm Bureau members as they enjoy fresh Florida food samples, play games, fellowship and learn about the role agriculture plays in football.
