On April 29, Florida Farm Bureau President Jeb S. Smith’s family farm was recognized as a Century Pioneer Family Farm by the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson. This award honors 100 years of farming by the Smith and Johns Family Farm in Hastings, Fla.
The program acknowledges the benefit family farms and ranches provide to the state and recognizes these pioneers as the original stewards of the land.
“This recognition points to the resilience of our family and its passion for production agriculture,” said President Smith. “Six generations have now been involved with the same land: a piece of ground that has proven our dependence upon God and promoted a love for each other. It is truly an honor to be a small part of this history and special recognition.”
Recipients of the award receive a certificate and a sign that can be posted on the property.
