New Mental Health Initiative to Support Farmers and Ranchers

August 2024

Florida Farm Bureau Federation has announced a statewide mental health initiative to help better understand the challenges and needs of Florida farmers and ranchers. Together, we can reduce the stigma and ensure Florida farmers and ranchers live full, healthy lives.

The Mind Your Melon Farmer Wellbeing Survey will be used to collect data on prominent stressors, coping mechanisms, different perceptions of mental health, and the types of support farmers and ranchers need. The study is in partnership with the UF/IFAS Center for Leadership, Marshal and Taylor Sewell with Mind Your Melon and other industry leaders.

“At Florida Farm Bureau, we are devoted to the health, safety and prosperity of our membership and everyone advancing agriculture in our state,” said Florida Farm Bureau President Jeb S. Smith. “Responses to the survey will help us understand how we can better serve and advocate for our farmers and ranchers who may be struggling and give us practical next steps to addressing this issue in our state.”

Farmers and ranchers across the state are encouraged to take the survey to ensure accurate data now and resources in the future. Survey participation is voluntary and confidential. The survey will be open from August 1– November 10, 2024.
