Florida Farm Bureau President Jeb S. Smith with Christy Chiarelli, director of the Wedgworth Leadership Institute.

The Wedgworth Leadership Institute develops leaders in Florida’s agriculture and natural resources industries. Through a two-year program, participants enhance their leadership skills, build strategic networks and gain a deeper understanding of complex social, economic and political issues. The program targets experienced professionals committed to long-term leadership. Classes travel to participate in seminars across Florida, the U.S. and abroad.

“When you travel with a class, you start to see people just like you are making tremendous differences in the state of Florida,” Chiarelli said. “There’s nothing special about a leader in Florida other than their willingness to step up and raise their hand and say, “I’ll do it.”

Through President Smith’s conversation with Chiarelli, listeners will learn more about the program, the value in chaos and the leadership qualities Chiarelli believes matter most. Her perspective just might change how listeners think about leading others.

Nominations and applications for the next Wedgworth Leadership Institute class will open in spring 2026 and host selection seminars in summer 2026. Class XIII will begin in fall 2026 with an expected summer 2028 graduation.
