IRS Offers Assistance for Taxpayers in Disaster Areas

Specific income tax relief is available for individuals and businesses in areas affected by natural disasters. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service offers several methods of assistance intended to help with recovery from losses.

Under some circumstances, taxpayers may receive extra time to file returns and pay taxes. They may also file amended tax returns that include claims for disaster-related losses during the previous year.
