Orlando, Fla. – Maddie Dvorak of Polk County took home first place at the Florida Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest on Oct. 27. Dvorak received a plaque and $500 for her winning speech on unmanned aerial systems and their use in agriculture.
The event was held at the organization’s 75th annual meeting at the Caribe Royal Orlando. Dvorak is a senior at Kathleen High School where she is active in the FFA. She was one of eight contestants.
This year’s topic was “What is an unmanned aerial system and how it can be used to impact agriculture.” Contestants were judged on content and delivery, and were given five minutes to speak.
The contest is meant to promote a stronger interest and clearer understanding of the many aspects of agriculture among our youth. Each year the Youth Speech Contest begins at the county level. The winner of each county contest competes in district contests and the district winners then make their presentations at the Florida Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting.
Ashley Harris of Union County received a plaque and $250 for second place.
Florida Farm Bureau, the state’s largest general agricultural organization, represents more than 145,000 member-families. We serve to enhance farm enterprise and improve rural communities.
