A new survey conducted by Morning Consult indicates that registered voters view farm production as the most sustainable sector of the national economy.
The opinion sample also showed that members of both major political parties agree that government policies should offer sustainability incentives instead of intense regulation for agriculture. The respondents noted that the phrase “modern agriculture” is an appealing description of food and fiber production in the United States.
In addition, 80 percent of the respondents strongly agreed or agreed with this statement: “The true success of an environmentally sustainable farming practice depends on whether that practice also leads to economic opportunity for the farmer.”
The survey was conducted Feb. 16-19 on behalf of the American Farm Bureau Federation and included nearly 2,000 registered voters. Results of the procedure have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percent.
