Lobster is in Season
August 24, 2018
Lobster season started on Aug. 6 and runs through March 31, 2019.
The Sunshine State accounts for nearly 100 percent of spiny lobster harvested in the United States.
The best time to catch a Florida spiny lobster is at night since the crustacean stays in its den during daylight hours.
Lobsters must have a carapace (hard shell) length greater than three inches to be legally caught during the open season. Divers must possess a measuring device, and the lobster must be in the water while they are measured.
Catching egg-bearing females is prohibited. Harvesting is also prohibited in state and national parks and in any marine sanctuaries.
