Florida Farm Bureau is participating in a growing social media initiative to buy and donate 10 gallons of milk to a local food pantry. The challenge supports dairy farmers and also provides nutrition for food insecure families.
Florida Farm Bureau Federation President John L. Hoblick and Florida Farm Bureau Insurance President Steve Murray challenged employees at the state office to see which department could raise the most money to donate gallons of milk for the Ten Gallon Challenge.
“I am proud to say that our staff accepted the challenge and raised enough money to donate 10 gallons of milk every week for an entire year,” said John L. Hoblick, President of Florida Farm Bureau Federation. “This is a great cause to support both our dairy farmers and those in need in our community.”
Funds will be used for milk purchases to be donated to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank in Gainesville. Bread of the Mighty serves a five county area including Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette and Levy.
The Ten Gallon Challenge originated as an effort to help “move some milk” off store shelves by a Wisconsin Farm Broadcaster and it has been embraced through social media.
Both presidents have challenged all 60 county Farm Bureaus throughout Florida to rise to the challenge and donate at least 10 gallons to their local food pantry.
The first donation of milk was presented to the Bread of the Mighty on Oct 4.
