State Sen. Kelli Stargel has earned Florida Farm Bureau’s 2018 Legislator of the Year award for her outstanding leadership during the 2018 legislative session.
Representing citizens in Lake, Polk and Osceola counties, Sen. Stargel sponsored two major bills on Florida Farm Bureau’s 2018 state legislative agenda and advocated on behalf of nearly all of the other items.
She led the charge for the adoption of a bill to expand the exemption for agricultural-restricted license plates and the measures included in the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ legislative package, including improvements to the Greenbelt law.
As chair of the Senate Finance and Tax Committee, Sen. Stargel incorporated the complete provisions of Sen. Denise Grimsley’s tax relief for hurricane recovery in the Senate’s final tax cut package.
“Sen. Stargel has been a true friend of agriculture,” said Florida Farm Bureau President John L. Hoblick. “Her hard work and commitment were instrumental in securing legislation to support our state’s farm families during the 2018 legislative session. We appreciate her efforts as a leading advocate for agriculture in the Senate.”
Sen. Stargel was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2008. She has served as a member of the Florida Senate since 2012.
