Young Farmers Head to the Beach
|
Young farmers and ranchers from across the state will convene at the Daytona Beach Hilton Oceanfront Resort, July 12-14, to learn, celebrate agriculture and enjoy fellowship at the 2019 Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Conference, themed “Ready. Set. Grow.” This year’s conference will feature the preliminary round of the 2019 Florida Farm Bureau Discussion Meet. Registration opens on Friday, April 5. Learn more about the Conference.

Local Farm Bureau Leader Promotes Civic Project
|
Orange County Farm Bureau Executive Director Bobby Beagles was instrumental in initiating a project to construct a new recreation center in the town of Christmas. An April 2 grand opening ceremony with Beagles, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and other local officials introduced the new resource to the public. The event was covered by area media outlets, including the Orlando Sentinel.

On April 3, the Senate passed a $90.3 billion budget plan, which set up negotiations with the House. The spending plan won bipartisan support and passed with a unanimous vote. The House is currently considering its proposed spending plan at $90 billion.
Both the House and Senate released their proposed 2019-2020 budgets earlier in March and many of the funding lines fell short of where Farm Bureau would like them to be. Both the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) budget and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences budget have important programs that need to see significant improvement.
