Florida Farm Bureau has selected its next Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Group for 2018-2020. The group will participate in a two-year program to refine their leadership abilities.

TWO YEARS AFTER BIRTH, COWS FROM HEAT-STRESSED CATTLE PRODUCE LESS MILK
A new UF/IFAS study found that two years after birth, cows born from heat-stressed mothers produced less milk. The research probes into why dairy calves that experience heat stress in the womb produce less milk later.

The FFB Women’s Fund donated $2,000 to Ag Angels, a nonprofit organization providing Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the Highlands County area. Women’s Committee Vice-Chair, Danielle Daum presented the check to Ag Angels Founder Scott Kirouac.

2018-19 FLORIDA AGRI-WOMEN OFFICERS ANNOUNCED
American Agri-Women Past President Marcie Williams, Croton, Ohio recently installed the 2018-19 Officers of the Florida Agri-Women in Port Charlotte. New officers included President Ruth Jensen, Port Charlotte; Vice President Sonia Tighe, Tampa; Secretary-Treasurer Andrea Stanford, Bradenton; and Immediate Past President Deborah Brady, Dunnellon.

FOLLOWING ELECTIONS, FARM BUREAU FOCUSES ON 2019 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Republicans Win 4 of 5 Statewide Races
After the dust settled on multiple recounts in a number of statewide and legislative races, Republicans emerged victorious in four of the five statewide races. The only statewide elected Democrat in Florida will be Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, who beat Republican Matt Caldwell by only 6,100 votes.
