Farm Bureau Leader Expresses Concern about Congressman’s View of South Florida Agriculture
March 12, 2019
Florida Farm Bureau President John L. Hoblick has informed U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney that the Congressman’s recent characterization of agriculture in the Everglades Agricultural Area is inaccurate.
In a letter sent to Rooney, the farm leader labeled the lawmaker’s comment as “inconsistent with the values and contributions of agriculture to our state’s economic and cultural well-being.”
Rooney said agriculture in the area was a “menace” during a public meeting. The comment was captured by video footage circulated on the internet.
Hoblick asked the Congressman to meet with him so that they can discuss shared solutions for the environmental challenges facing South Florida.
