Alachua County Resident Wins State Discussion Meet

Sarah Luther of Alachua County was awarded first place in the Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet competition. The award was presented at the Florida Farm Bureau’s 84th state Annual Meeting on Oct. 27.

Sarah Luther of Alachua County was named the 2025 Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet winner. The award was presented by Florida Farm Bureau President Jeb Smith at the organization’s 84th state annual meeting in Daytona Beach on Oct. 27.

The competition is evaluated on a constructive exchange of ideas and information on pre-determined questions. Other finalists for the statewide contest were John Jones of Gilchrist County, Caroline Chappell of Jackson County and Aaron Bruce of Manatee County.

Luther is a cattle rancher, attorney and passionate advocate for sustainable agriculture and rural resilience. With degrees in agricultural engineering, business and law, she brings a unique perspective to land management and agricultural policy. Alongside her husband, she owns and operates a working ranch where they raise Angus-Wagyu beef.

Luther is deeply involved in agricultural leadership at the local and state level. She currently co-chairs her county’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee, serves on statewide groups, and works as corporate counsel for a national ag-tech company, where she advises on regulatory compliance, land use, and strategic initiatives that support farmers through direct-to-farm input delivery and data-driven tools.

“It’s a lot of work over many months, so it’s really exciting for it to have paid off,” Luther said. “I’m really looking forward to representing Florida on the national level for the Discussion Meet.”

Sarah received a utility vehicle courtesy of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Company, $500 in cash and an expense-paid trip to the 2026 American Farm Bureau Annual Convention in Anaheim, Calif. in January, where she will represent Florida and compete against other states for the national Discussion Meet title.
