State Sen. Debbie Mayfield has earned Florida Farm Bureau’s 2020 Legislator of the Year award for her outstanding leadership during the 2020 legislative session.
Representing citizens in South Brevard and Indian River counties, Sen. Mayfield sponsored SB 712, the bill that became Florida Farm Bureau Federation’s top priority legislation during the 2020 legislative session.
This legislation added to the credibility of the agricultural Best Management Practices program with a verification process. It also supports additional research by UF/IFAS and state agriculture department officials to develop new BMPs.
As Chair of the of the Agriculture and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, Mayfield was instrumental in securing funding for the FDACs Fresh From Florida and the Rural and Family Land’s programs.

Mayfield showed great leadership in sponsoring a comprehensive water bill that will have a significant impact on Florida’s water quality.” said Florida Farm Bureau State Legislative Director Adam Basford. “At every turn, she listened to our input and stood up for sound scientific solutions.
