Earth Day is Every Day on the Farm

April 2023

On April 22, people around the world will celebrate Earth Day. This day is used to honor and appreciate our planet and the environmental stewards who take care of the land.

Communities will gather in celebration and participate in activities to help raise awareness of the importance of taking care of the Earth. While these efforts take place, there is one group who tirelessly tends to the land year-round – farmers and ranchers.

For decades, farmers have adopted conservation practices that preserve land, water and wildlife habitat each day. These climate smart practices contribute to our quality of life.

Of the approximate 140 million acres of farmland in the U.S. being used for conservation efforts, nearly 10 million of those acres are housed in Florida. Many Florida agriculturalists dedicate a part of their farm or ranch to preserving our state’s natural resources so that they can continue to grow the abundance of food that we all need to survive.

Farmers and ranchers are true environmental stewards of the land. Healthy soil provides a healthy food supply for future generations.  Florida Farm Bureau proudly highlights Florida farm families for their sustainability efforts through the This Farm CARES recognition program.

Thank you farmers and ranchers for what you do. If you know a farmer or rancher in your community who should be recognized, nominate them for a This Farm CARES award.
