EHV-1 Outbreak in Texas and Oklahoma

December 2025

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has issued a statement regarding recent outbreaks of Equine Herpes Virus-Type 1 at a World Pro Rodeo Association event held November 5-9, 2025, in Waco, TX, and a Barrel Futurities of America event held November 17-18 in Guthrie, OK.

While no cases of EHV-1 associated with this outbreak have been identified in Florida, FDACS Division of Animal Industry recommends practicing strict biosecurity measures for horses that may have been associated with either of these events, as such measures are vital in preventing the spread of the virus.  The State of Florida has not imposed any movement restrictions or additional requirements for animal movement.

Additional information and helpful resources can be found in the FDACS announcement, which can be accessed via the following link: Texas, Oklahoma EHV-1 Outbreak.  Any changes in movement requirements will be updated on www.interstatelivestock.com.
