Farmers and ranchers across Florida met with Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03) on Feb. 13 to discuss the upcoming Farm Bill. The Congresswoman held three listening sessions throughout the state to discuss key priorities, listen to concerns, and collect feedback from farmers.
The listening sessions began in Alachua and concluded in Clewiston, with one stop in Lake Wales. The sessions drew more than 75 agriculturalists, and more than 40 Farm Bureau members spoke about Farm Bill topics directly affecting their farms and ranches.
“We appreciate Congresswoman Cammack taking the time to meet with our members and having these conversations,” said Lance Watson, Florida Farm Bureau National Affairs Director. “The listening sessions provided members an opportunity to be a voice for agriculture and speak on priorities that directly impact their livelihoods.”
Key Farm Bill priorities discussed include commodities, conservation, rural development, forestry, crop insurance, block grant availability for disaster relief and interstate commerce restrictions.
A Farm Bill has not been passed since 2018, making this the first time in history the Bill hasn’t been consecutively passed and jeopardizing crucial programs that farm families depend upon to provide safe and abundant food and fiber for the nation.
