January 2025

Florida Farm Bureau industry leaders will be inducted into the 2025 Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame at the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame Banquet February 11 at 7:00 p.m., 2025.

Conservationists and cattle ranchers Cary and Marcia Lightsey of Polk County have committed 80 percent of their land to conservation easements, preserving thousands of acres of environmentally sensitive areas and providing wildlife habitat. The Lightsey’s are passionate about agriculture and preserving the land so that future generations are able to enjoy “Old Florida.” The Lightseys have been honored with multiple awards for their commitment to the industry at the local, state and national level.

Fellow rancher Jim Strickland is also a steward of the land, with family ranching roots dating back to the 1800’s. His passion for agriculture and conservation began early in his career as increasing development infringed upon his farm.  Strickland is committed to developing solutions to protecting Florida ranchlands and has been recognized on a national level for his work in agriculture conservation.

Madeline Mellinger has dedicated more than five decades to integrated pest management and is a mentor to the next generation of growers. She is an advocate for the land-grant system and has been recognized by multiple organizations for her mentorship and dedication to the industry.
