Florida Residents Endorse Farmers’ Water Conservation

Sept. 9, 2015

A new survey indicates that seven out of every 10 Floridians strongly agree or agree that farmers conserve water, protect the natural environment and preserve greenspace.
Conducted by the University of Florida’s Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources, the survey also revealed that three-fourths of the respondents would be likely to pay more for food and other items produced with state-of-the-art techniques known as Best Management Practices.
Through their implementation of these practices, developed by university researchers, farmers and ranchers in this state conserve more than 11 billion gallons of freshwater each year. Field monitoring by state officials has repeatedly demonstrated the outstanding conservation successes achieved by farm families throughout our state.
