Officials at two federal agencies are seeking public comments as they develop new Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Announcements by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services opened the process of developing the guidelines by requesting comments from experts as well as other respondents. The new recommendations, expected to be in effect from 2020 to 2025, will include topics that apply to various life stages from infancy to old age.
The advice included in Dietary Guidelines for Americans is used to formulate federal nutrition programs and policies. It determines food recommendations offered to help prevent diet-related chronic diseases and promote good health.
Comments may be submitted until March 30. Access proposed topics and the scientific questions supporting them, along with a portal for comments, at www.DietaryGuidelines.gov.
