Safety on the Farm

Sept. 24, 2014

The National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) in Peosta has recognized Sept. 21-27 as National Farm Safety and Health Week. This year’s theme is “Safety Counts-Protecting What Matters.” Workers are encouraged to practice good safety habits.

According to the Department of Labor, the agriculture sector accounted for 475 fatalities in 2012, which equals 21.2 fatal injuries per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers.  More than 2 million people in the United States work in agriculture.
