Florida seafood products are available in the next round of the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program. More than 132 million food boxes have been distributed since the COVID-19 pandemic surfaced early last year.
In this fifth round, USDA Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced that $1.5 billion worth of food was purchased for distribution. In addition to fresh produce, meat and dairy, seafood joins the products in the combination boxes.
The Farmers to Families Food Box program is part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), which was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Agriculture, tourism, including the hotel and restaurant industries, have been severely impacted by closures therefore saw the need to distribute agricultural products to Americans in need.
