HURRICANE MICHAEL RELIEF FUND
Families in North Florida have suffered unprecedented damages due to Hurricane Michael. In response, Florida Farm Bureau has created a fund that will help North Florida farm families recovering from agricultural-related damages from the storm.

STATE ANNUAL MEETING WELCOMES 400 MEMBERS
More than 400 grassroots members traveled to St. Augustine to attend Florida Farm Bureau’s State Annual Meeting Oct. 24-26. The meeting recognized young farmers and ranchers, lawmakers and volunteer leaders for their accomplishments. Voting delegates approved policy resolutions that will be adopted as policy for 2019.

AGRICULTURE CERTIFICATION FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
The Livestock Education and Certification for Agriculture Law Enforcement (LECALE) program is a four-day rigorous and relevant training program designed to increase the knowledge and skill level of law enforcement and state attorney personnel on livestock animal production. The program will be held in Gainesville, Dec. 10-14.

Agricultural Research Service ( ARS) scientists in Albany, California, have found a way to streamline the process that scientists use to insert multiple genes into a crop plant, developing a reliable method that will make it easier to breed a variety of crops with vastly improved traits.

ONE-STOP SHOP FOR PRESERVING WATER QUALITY
The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) has created a comprehensive Conservation Media Library consisting of instructional videos, slide shows, graphics, fact sheets and other materials designed to help farmers research, plan and install different types of soil and water conservation systems.

WEBSITE ON LAND MANAGEMENT FOR FARMERS
The USDA Farmers.gov website was created for producers nationwide. It serves as a resource for both new and veteran farmers who manage land through both traditional and innovative approaches.

UF/IFAS IMPACT ANALYSIS FROM HURRICANE MICHAEL
UF/IFAS has released its economic impact analysis on losses to Florida agriculture from Hurricane Michael. The Category 4 hurricane caused widespread damage to crops, livestock and timber across Northwest Florida. The report provides estimated agricultural losses for Florida.

WHIP DEADLINE IS APPROACHING
The sign-up period for the 2017 Wildfires and Hurricanes Indemnity Program (WHIP) will end on Nov. 16, 2018. It is imperative that producers contact their local FSA office if they incurred damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017.

FARM BUREAU COMMITTED TO HELPING OUR PANHANDLE FARMERS
For the second consecutive year, Florida agriculture was devastated by a strong hurricane. Last year, it was Hurricane Irma that caused more than $2.5 billion in damage to the agriculture industry alone. A few weeks ago, Hurricane Michael, a Category 4 monster that seemingly came out of nowhere, destroyed homes and farms from Defuniak Springs to Tallahassee.
