FFB Women’s Leadership Committee Provides Conference Scholarship to Florida Teachers

The Florida Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee (WLC) awarded ten scholarships to Florida teachers to attend the National Ag in the Classroom Conference held in Orlando on June 26-29, 2023.

Each year, teachers travel across the country to learn new ways to incorporate agriculture into their classroom. The recipients of the scholarship, who attended the conference this year include: Jennifer Price, Hendry County; Kendall Prescott, Highlands County; Kayla Prescott, Highlands County; Elisa Vasher, Hillsborough County; Jacqueline Holmes, Lake County; Erin Williams, Levy County; Amy Davis, Marion County; Amanda Ferguson, Orange County; Robbin Ballard, Orange County; and Christy Wood, Seminole County.

The Women’s Fund donated $9,600 to the Florida Ag in the Classroom to fund the expenses for the Florida teachers to attend.

“The National Ag in the Classroom Conference is an amazing conference that provides hands-on experience for the teachers and volunteers to see first-hand how easy and engaging it is to incorporate agriculture lessons into their core curriculum lessons,” said Danielle Daum, the Women’s Leadership Committee chair. “Teachers who attend these conferences come home excited and eager to implement the ideas they’ve learned in their classrooms.”

The WLC had an active role in the conference from assisting in the farm tours, hosting workshops and engaging with the attendees nationwide. “I foresee that ladies on our committee will be called upon for years to come to help with endeavors in classrooms as a result of these connections,” said Daum.

“We are so honored to be able to host this conference in Florida and we could not have done with it without the support from Florida Farm Bureau and Florida agriculture,” said Becky Sponholtz, Executive Director for Florida Agriculture in the Classroom.
