Holden Webb, a junior at Union County High School, won first place in the Florida Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest at the organization’s 85th State Annual Meeting on Oct. 29. An active member of Lake Butler FFA, Webb impressed judges with a compelling five-minute speech addressing the topic: “What are some of the proactive, collaborative steps that farmers, ranchers, local communities, and organizations like Farm Bureau can take to help guard against invasive species threatening Florida agriculture?”
The Youth Speech Contest aims to deepen a student’s understanding of agriculture, foster appreciation for its impact and inspire the next generation to champion its values and future. Sponsored by the Florida Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee, the contest features contestants between the ages of 14-18, each representing one of Florida Farm Bureau’s nine field districts.
“Joining FFA during my freshman year was one of the best decisions I have made,” Webb said. “It introduced me to some of the nicest people I have ever met, and it is those people in the agricultural industry that have led me to become the public speaker I am today.”
Webb was presented with a $1,000 check and award plaque. The second-place winner, Johnathan Miller of Hillsborough County, received $500 and a plaque.
