Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Program: Overview & Objectives
The Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Leadership Group is a two-year leadership development program designed to prepare members to become effective advocates and leaders in agriculture.
Participants gain hands-on exposure to Florida agriculture, including interactions with farmers and ranchers, insight into agricultural policy and opportunities to engage with Farm Bureau at the local, state and national levels.
Throughout the program, members will:
- Participate in agricultural advocacy efforts
- Build relationships through networking and leadership activities
- Receive training in media relations, communication and public speaking
- Develop personal and professional skills through interactive seminars
The program includes 13 seminars over approximately 45 days, offering in-depth leadership training for the next generation of agricultural leaders.
Program Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an active Florida Farm Bureau member per FFBF Bylaws
- Maintain good standing for at least one year prior to applying
- Be 18 – 35 years old as of November 1 of the program year
- Not be a salaried employee of FFBF, a county Farm Bureau or affiliated organizations
- Demonstrate strong leadership potential, character and professionalism
- Be able to actively participate in seminars and complete program assignments
Note: Spouses may apply individually or together.
Required Application Materials
To apply for the YF&R Leadership Program, submit:
- Two references
- One from the applicant’s county Farm Bureau board member (current or past)
- One from a non-family member
- Completed Employer Authorization Form or Self-Employed Form
- Approval from the applicant’s county Farm Bureau President
Expectations & Commitment
The YF&R Leadership Program requires a strong commitment to participation and professionalism. Participants are expected to:
- Attend all seminars (missing two results in dismissal without refund)
- Communicate promptly with program coordinators in case of emergencies
- Demonstrate integrity, responsibility and leadership
- Actively engage in all program activities and discussions
