David and Libby Torbert of Torbert Farms in Dade County have been named the 2026 Florida Farm Bureau Achievement in Agriculture award winner for demonstrating outstanding management and growth in their farming operation, as well as leadership within Farm Bureau and their community. The winner was announced at Florida Farm Bureau’s 85th State Annual Meeting on Oct. 28 at the Daytona Hilton Oceanfront Beach Resort.
The Torberts manage a large-scale vegetable farm supplying major grocery chains and meal kit services across the Eastern United States. Committed to innovation and sustainability, they use GPS technology, crop rotation and the H-2A guest worker program to improve efficiency and soil health. David serves as President of Dade County Farm Bureau and regularly hosts farm tours for legislators and community leaders. Libby, a former early childhood educator, supports the farm, advocates for agriculture and helps raise their three children.
“David and I feel honored to be recognized with the Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement in Agriculture award,” Libby said. “David has dedicated a lot of his time over the past few years giving back to Farm Bureau at both the county and state levels, and I am proud to see his hard work and commitment recognized. We’re grateful to be a part of Florida Farm Bureau Federation!”
As the state winner, the Torberts received a $45,000 cash prize courtesy of Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Companies, a $500 cash award and an expense paid trip to the 2027 American Farm Bureau Convention in Charlotte, N.C., where they will represent Florida in the national Young Farmers and Ranchers competition in January.
